In Memoriam: Tobey 2001 – 2018

Wednesday morning we buried our dear feline companion of 17 years, Tobey. In October of 2001 we discovered her hiding in the bushes around our house, apparently abandoned by someone. She was such a beautiful little kitten that we had to add her to our family. Our other cat had been adopted from a shelter and since she arrived there in April that was what they named her. Since Tobey appeared in October we named her Tobey, short for October. She had a lovable yet feisty personality and we will miss her companionship.

  1. Jeff and Ellen, I was so sorry to read about Tobey. Clearly she found the best possible home with both of you. A house really does feel empty when you lose a pet. I send you lots of love.

  2. Jeff, this is such a sweet remembrance. I don’t think we’ve ever seen her baby pictures. Thanks for doing this. I love your drawings also.

    1. Thanks Donna. It was very difficult but it was time. Of course she’ll be missed. We have a lot more pix of her so when you get back we can take a look if you want. Thanks for writing.

  3. So sorry Jeff. My husband Dieter and I are cat people too, having had seven throughout our life together, and for the first time none in the last two years. It is so hard to be without the presence of a cat in your home. Best sympathy.

    1. Ann, It’s great to hear from you. Thank you very much for your heartfelt thoughts. We too have had 7 cats in our life together, Tobey being the last. As you must know, the memories come flooding back every time we see something that we associate with her. Time will heal the sense of loss. Thanks again for your kindness. So glad you enjoyed the drawing of Tobey.

    1. Thank you. Yes, she was a terrific personality and kept us company for many years. It was difficult to see her deteriorate in her later days and we had to finally put her to sleep. I think she will be our last cat. We’ve had cats (usually two at a time) since we were married (next year we will celebrate 50 years!!) Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

  4. I’m sorry to hear your news. It was clear in our visit with you in October that Tobey was a loved family member. Thanks for posting these sweet photos.

    1. Thanks Jan. It was great having you and John to visit and I’m glad we still had Tobey with us. As you must have seen, she was not doing well and we finally decided to act for her sake. We now have tons of snow so all the fall color is gone and winter is upon us in full force. Thanks again for writing and “following” the blog. Best to you both.
