Figuary Drawings

Two YouTube channels that I subscribe to provide examples for practicing figure drawing. One, The Croquis Cafe, presents 20 – 25 minutes of weekly recorded live models in poses lasting 1, 2 and 5 minutes in length. The other channel is Love Life Drawing which teaches methods and hints for improving life drawing technique. The producers of both channels combined efforts to present “Figuary”, 28 days of life drawing with different models and drawing suggestions every day for the whole month of February. The idea was to get viewers into the habit of drawing EVERY DAY, even if only for about 15 minutes each day.

I’m trying to keep up as best I can. The main challenge for me is to work at short poses of only one or two minutes as they are presented during “Figuary”. Normally I don’t do the short poses but, instead, add time on so as to end with a more finished drawing. But the whole idea of “Gesture Drawing” is to quickly capture the essence of the pose and not be concerned with doing a completed drawing. So it has been a challenge. I’ve forced myself to try my hand at the short poses and some of the results are shown below. There are some five minute or longer poses as well. Several drawings were done while the model was slowly moving (There are written notations ((“moving”)) within those drawings.)

In keeping with my recent projects, all of these drawings were done on an iPad using Procreate app with an Apple pencil.
