Life Drawings / May 15

This week I wasn’t sure which medium I wanted to work in so I brought my iPad, sketchbook and pens and pencils. I hadn’t done any life drawing on the iPad for a while so I started out with that for the four 5-minute short poses. As in the past, I used Procreate app to do the drawings with two “brushes”; “willow charcoal” and “6B pencil”. I started with the willow charcoal brush and roughed in the overall shape of the pose and then, with the pencil brush, I added the line work.

The next pose was for 25 minutes and I wanted to try using the ballpoint pen for that. As it turned out, I did two drawing of that reclining pose; one from the front (15 minutes) and one from the back (10 minutes). It was a difficult pose and I almost wished I’d used pencil for it since that would have been more forgiving. Once you put the pen marks down, you’re stuck with them!

The following pose was a bit more straightforward, a standing pose and for that one I did use mechanical pencil with kneaded eraser to bring out some highlights.

The final pose was done with ballpoint pen.

Short poses done on iPad
Longer poses
15 minute pose (first of two) – ballpoint pen -front view
10 minute pose (second of two) – ballpoint pen -rear view
20 minute pose – mechanical pencil
18 minute pose – ballpoint pen
