Life Drawings / September 4

For this week’s life drawing I’ve continued to use NuPastels and Chunky Charcoals on 18″ x 24″ paper. I used the same setup (on table top) as last week and it seems to work well for now even without an easel. The timings are listed in the captions of each drawing.

    1. Hi Laureen. No, she wasn’t dancing. She is a very experienced model and knows how to create the feeling of movement and opposing forces in a pose. She has great extension in arms and legs and that also creates energy. She is sometimes difficult to capture because she has a very muscular build and is rather tall.

It feels good to be back to pastels again. I think I’m able to be the most spontaneous, bold and direct with them. Thank you for writing. I’m always delighted to hear from you.

        1. In reality using pastels, for me, is like dry painting. It gives the advantage of applying splashes of color and yet is actually drawing at the same time; the perfect combination of painting and drawing.
